Emergency First Aid At Work

Who Should Attend?
Where an employer has carried out a risk assessment and identified a need for a First Aider, a person(s) should be nominated for training. Any person who would like to learn basic first aid. Individuals who work as self employed and work in the conjunction with others.

The person nominated should:

  • Possess an aptitude to absorb new knowledge and skills.
  • Have duties that do not prevent them going immediately to an emergency.
  • Anyone wanting to gain a nationally recognised qualification in First Aid.
  • People who want to improve knowledge of First Aid (personal or work requirements).

What will you learn?
The course will give candidates the knowledge and confidence to deal with a First Aid emergency in the work place (or home). All candidates will gain practical skills in dealing with First Aid (resuscitation and bandaging).

Course Content

  • Understand the role of the first aider including reference to the use of available equipment and the need for recording incidents and actions
  • Understand the importance of basic hygiene in first aid procedures
  • Assess the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency
  • Demonstrate how to administer first aid safely, promptly and effectively to a casualty who is unconscious and/or in seizure/Heart Attack/Stroke
  • Demonstrate how to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation promptly and effectively
  • Demonstrate how to administer first aid safely, promptly and effectively to a casualty who is wounded or bleeding and/or in shock
  • Administer first aid safely, promptly and effectively to a casualty who is choking
  • Provide appropriate first aid for minor injuries.

Certification
Upon completion of the one day course and successfully completing final assessment successful candidates receive an Compliant HSE certificate to allow them to practise for three years after which a full re-qualification course becomes necessary. (Level 3)
